Our History at Primrose Cottage
For 12 years, Mike Moon Studio was one of the preferred photographers at Primrose Cottage.
Over that time our team photographed more than 150 weddings there. Spring weddings and winter ones. Bright summer afternoons and gray fall days. Small groups on the lawn and big, loud send-offs at the end of the night.
When you photograph a venue that many times, you stop guessing. You know which way to face the couple on the porch at four o’clock. You know where the fountain looks best. You know how long it takes to walk the wedding party from the house to the lawn.
That experience is what this guide is about.
What Primrose Cottage Feels Like on a Wedding Day
A White House, a Porch and a Garden
Primrose Cottage is built around a white house with a front porch, a garden fountain and an open lawn out front.
The house has real history. It was finished in 1839 for Eliza King Hand, the widowed daughter of Roswell King, the man the city is named for. Today it is part of the Roswell Historic District, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it sits just minutes from downtown Roswell.
Behind the house are verandas, brick terraces and English gardens with stone paths, plus a ballroom and the glass-walled Overlook grand hall. The venue hosts up to 250 guests.
Even with all that space, it still feels like getting married at a home. Guests sit on the lawn, the house frames the ceremony, and the garden is a few steps away for portraits.
Because everything is close together, the day moves at an easy pace. You spend less time traveling between spots and more time with your people.
How the Day Usually Flows
Every wedding is different, but most of the Primrose Cottage weddings we’ve photographed follow a similar rhythm.
First look. The front porch and the garden fountain are the two places couples choose most. We’ve photographed first looks with a tap on the shoulder, first looks wrapped in a veil, and couples reading letters to each other right after.
Ceremony. Most of our couples marry on the front lawn, under an arbor with the white house behind them. We’ve seen it styled with ivy, with white drapes and roses, and with a string quartet playing as guests arrive.
Reception. Cocktail hour is usually behind the house, and the reception moves into the ballroom, whose windows make it feel like an extension of the garden.
Evening. As the sun goes down, the string lights in the garden come on. This is one of our favorite times of the day here.
Send-off. We’ve photographed send-offs down the steps, through rows of cheering guests and from the back seat of a getaway car.
Our Favorite Photo Spots at Primrose Cottage
The front porch. Soft, shaded light and the white house behind you. It works for first looks, bridal portraits and quiet moments before the ceremony.
The garden fountain. A classic for couple portraits, and a favorite spot for a long veil.
The front lawn and the house. Wide portraits with the whole house in the frame show off the venue and your dress.
Under the string lights. After dark, our Moonlite Lighting System lets us make clean, natural night portraits in the garden, which are often couples’ favorite photos from the whole day.
Primrose Cottage Through the Seasons
We’ve photographed Primrose Cottage in every season, so there’s no wrong time to book it.
Spring and summer bring green lawns and long evenings. Fall brings warm color. Winter weddings here can be beautiful too, especially with a first look on the porch and portraits by the fountain.
And don’t worry about clouds. Some of our favorite Primrose Cottage galleries were shot on overcast days, when the light on the porch and lawn is soft and even.

We loved our 12 years as a preferred vendor at Primrose Cottage, and we still love photographing weddings there.
